About the geese

WELCOME TO co-ed Calgary Geese rugby

Once a Goose, always a Goose. Honk Honk!

ABOUT US

Calgary Geese Rugby was formed in 2022 through the Calgary Rugby Union by seasoned retired (and active) rugby players. The goal was to create a community for mature rugby players looking to participate in modified game play. The Calgary Geese provide a home to women and men looking to stay involved in rugby but may no longer have the objectives or commitment levels of traditional competitive contact-rugby clubs. We offer touch rugby, modified contact games , winter sessions, local tournaments, touring sides, and social events for members and players of all clubs to remain involved and continue to socialize together

HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION

Geese Rugby is the culmination of years of organizing touch and modified contact games for vintage +35 players in Alberta. Jodie Schmalzbauer (Barracudas) and Adam Stamper (Hornet/Cobra) had been playing and touring with Masters teams for a number of years when in 2018, Jodie met Adam one Stampede 7s and together, they began scheming on building a stronger Old Boys/Girls community in Calgary.

With the contribution of Alumni from Saints, Hornets, CCIAC, Drayton Valley Riggers, LRC and Rams, who have served on our organizing committee from 2018 to today, the organization has grown to include year round programming.

In 2022, we started representing the proud Calgary Rugby Union -Snow Goose, from the original crest, we established Geese Rugby to champion modified and accessible rugby in the Calgary Rugby Union.

Thanks to Chris Cutler (Hornets), Ashley Remmert (Saracens), Andy Roberts (CCIAC), Kathryn Welsh (CCIAC) and Pete Rowe and many others who have believed in what we were trying to do and helped this project along its way and we look forward to continuing to serve this fantastic community!
